How much did you miss today?
I had a meeting with one of my professor’s today whose responsibility is to talk
with me about my own spiritual development while I am in seminary. As we talked mentioned meeting international students who want to have a conversation with you as you walk across campus and how we tend to miss those important contacts and conversations with people as we run here and there in the busy-ness of our lives. I wonder how many great conversations I have missed because I have been too busy to pay attention.
Elijah and I were butting heads today. He is growing up and testing his boundaries while I am learning how to be a parent with no manual. We argued and battled and reminded each other that we each love the other as the day wore on. At one point Micah was sitting next to us toward the end of one of our altercations. He looked at me and began to talk about one little thing he had done to misbehave today too. I realized then he had been following me around all day and this was his way of saying, “I need some attention too.” I wonder how many timesI have missed loving my boys because I have been distracted.
My professor asked me today how I was doing with a Rule of Life I had written a few semesters ago. (A reminder of what I want my life to be about) I had completely forgotten abour writing that Rule and printed it out again when I got home. As I read through it I realized that I have been neglecting many valuable time with the One who calls me beloved. My study for service has gotten in the way of being in His presence. I wonder how many times I have missed Him speaking because I was trying to do His work?
How much do we miss? How much have you missed today?
